The Indoor Environment

Children have use of a fully stocked playroom, which hosts a variety of free-choice toys including books, garage, trains, cars etc. The playrooms main focus is a home area with kitchen, dolls, shop, dressing up rail and puppets. There is also a computer for adult assisted use by the children.

Children can explore a variety of role play and become a chef, mummy or a doctor for the day!

Also located in the playroom is our creative table. Children have lots of free choice in expressing their creative abilities using a variety of media including paint, crayons, play-dough, chalk and glue. Children also have access to a junk box for creating wonderful works of art to take home for their loved ones! We do let the children get extremely creative so although aprons are used I don’t recommend sending your child in their Sunday best!

Children thrill in making cards and gifts for their families for special occasions.  We are always thinking up new thoughtful ideas for your children to create treasured keep-sake for parents!

Most creative crafts are child led allowing them to explore their creative self!

At times with direction we help the children to create something that is of particular interest to them or that accompanies a topic we are maybe currently learning about!

The lounge area is used for floor play. Children have lots of choice in this area from the vast selection on offer! This may include larger floor play with use of trains or garages, happy-land, construction toys, and board games. We also use this area to explore our treasure basket, erect our multi sensory dark den or enjoy circle time where we will share a story, song, instruments, puppets and children’s news! The Children also like to have a little work out to our Tumble-Tots CD!

The children get the opportunity to bake at least once a fortnight this maybe anything from, biscuits, bread, ice-lollies, cakes to pizza!

The Outdoor Environment

Entrance to Toddle-Tots

We have a secure outdoor all weather play area which is a fantastic space for extending further play opportunities whenever the weather isn’t great!

Children have use of an arts & craft area here along with a Post Office role play which we often change in to a bakery or police station!

We have a large play table for construction items or train tracks along with 2 further play tables for more structured activities such as puzzles, threading, play-dough & Mr potato heads!

We also use this area for gardening we like to plant a variety of seeds including strawberries, tomatoes & beans. Children nurture these by watering daily & once we have some produce we share them at snack time!

We also have our “Great Sunflower race”. Each year the children plant their own seeds, care for them & measure them. Children can then take them home to measure further. & give us feedback on how well they are growing at home!

This year we hatched our very own caterpillars into butterflies here too!

Main Garden

At the rear of the house we have a very safe secure back garden. Here children get the opportunity to run off some energy & get involved in energetic play! Children have use of ride-on cars & bikes, slide & small trampoline etc.

Children also get the opportunity to play with sand & water & jelly-bath. We also let children experiment with tubs filled with soil, bark & sawdust great learning opportunities!

In the summer months children can have fun on our bouncy castle, paddling pool & water slide. It obviously goes without saying that these activities are with full adult supervision, plus permission is sought on contract for water play activities!

Outings

One of the many benefits of using a childminder is that children get to utilise the wider environment through regular outings. We at Toddle-Tots like to go out most days whatever the weather! This may be a trip to the farm, park or Chew Valley Lakes.

We also visit Horseworld, Avon Valley Country Park, & Noahs Ark Zoo Farm regularly!

Many of these attractions do not incur a fee for under 2/3 years olds but I will discuss with you options for cheaper entry.

All entrance fees to be paid by parents/carers with notice & agreement!

All this will be discussed on initial meeting.

We also like to do some extra special things too; this may be a bus ride into the centre followed by a ferry ride around the docks! We also like to go to Portishead & Clevedon crabbing regularly during the spring/summer months!

We go fruit picking at least twice a year!

Every June/July we go to Weston-Super-Mare as a special treat for any children leaving us for big school adventures, A great day is had by all!
